The Visionary

Hi, I'm Sarah!

I created this space from my own journey to help others reconnect with their bodies, restore vitality, and rediscover the joy of movement. Whether you’re curious, cautious, or ready to dive in, there’s a place here for you.

Sarah Mackenzie, midlife yoga instructor, guiding students in mindful, capacity-based yoga

Grow Your Vision

I grew up in Alberta, surrounded by community and nature. From early on, I was curious, adventurous, and drawn to movement as a way to connect with myself and the world.

After graduating from college, I built a career as a respiratory therapist, helping others breathe easier and stay healthy. But while I cared for others, I was not listening to my own body. Workouts and routines that once energized me began to leave me drained, and fatigue became a constant companion.

“Everything shifted when I started truly listening to my body.”
Sarah Mackenzie, yoga teacher training in Costa Rica

A life-changing teacher training in Costa Rica taught me that yoga could be more than movement- it could be a tool for connection, restoration, and self-discovery.

Teaching across studios in central Alberta over the years helped me refine my approach, grow in confidence, and find my voice as I discovered that every body carries its own wisdom and moves at its own pace.

Then, in January 2025, everything shifted. I took a leap of faith, stepping away from my career in Respiratory Therapy to fully embrace yoga as my calling. It was both terrifying and clarifying- because for the first time, I saw my purpose clearly: to create a community where midlife changes are met with openness, curiosity, and compassion, and where women are invited to honour their body’s wisdom rather than fight against it.

"My classes focus on honouring energy, moving with intention, and building strength without judgment. Students learn to listen to their bodies, embrace their limits, and feel supported in every stage of life."

Off the mat, you’ll find me hiking, camping, riding my motorcycle, or enjoying quiet evenings with my cats, Aslan and Wally. Life off the mat fuels how I teach and how I show up for my students.

Grow Your Vision

I created Capacity Conscious Yoga out of my own lived experience of navigating perimenopause. For years, I pushed through fatigue, ignored my body's signals, and treated movement as a means for external results only.

“2 weeks from peak”- 30-year-old Sarah bragging that she could change whatever she needed to (healthy or otherwise) to be in ‘peak physical form’ in 2 weeks. This referred to the aesthetic image of ‘peak’, and completely disregarded other important factors of health.

When perimenopause hit, everything changed. Methods that once left me buzzing with energy began to break me down; workouts ended in crashes, my joints throbbed, and even sleep stopped restoring me. It wasn’t until I began to really listen, to notice my shifting energy, my rhythms, and my capacity day by day, that everything changed.

Lets make yoga fun, funcitional and for where are bodies are at

Yoga became less about forcing myself into poses and more about honouring where I was in each moment. I discovered that when I aligned my practice with my body’s wisdom, I felt stronger, steadier, and more alive.

Now I guide my students to do the same. My teaching is about showing up as you are, not as who you think you should be. In my classes, you will learn to listen to your body, adjust your movement, and choose practices that energize and support you.

I’ll challenge you, gently but firmly, to drop the old narratives about pushing harder and doing more. Instead, you’ll practice a new kind of discipline: the courage to rest when needed, to move when it feels right, and to trust the capacity of your body in this season of life.

“The real power comes from honouring your body's wisdom in the moment. THAT’S the yoga”- 40-year-old Sarah, humbled by perimenopause, who now knows that pushing through is societal conditioning, and those messages were never meant for perimenopause.
